“Heed these words, You who wish to probe the depths of nature: If you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither will you find it outside. In you is hidden the treasure of treasures. Know Thyself and you will know the Universe and the Gods” Delphi Oracle
‘A Lamp to Dispel Darkness’ is a translation by B. Alan Wallace of Mipham Rinpoche’s ‘Advice for Pointing Out the Mind in Accordance with the Tradition of the Old Realized Ones’. It is a set of pith instructions that establish a powerful and profound path to sustain awareness of the essential nature of mind and thus wake up to the true nature of our being, without the need for extensive learning or solitary retreat experience.
Alan Wallace in this one-day workshop will guide and sustain those present in the clear, direct and specific pith instructions for both establishing, and sustaining such a view.
The intent of the workshop is:
• To crack open the egg of ignorance
• To cut the net of mundane existence
• To dwell in space like equipoise
This one-day workshop will aim to establish a sound basis for a practice, for both meditation and everyday life, which can be sustained continually; and in which the authenticity of the path is demonstrated in that ‘faith, compassion and wisdom naturally increase by themselves’.
Dharma Master ALAN WALLACE
‘ Lamp to Dispel Darkness’
Dharma Master Alan Wallace – a scholar and practitioner of Buddhism since 1970 – has taught Buddhist theory and meditation worldwide since 1976. Having devoted fourteen years to training as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, ordained by H. H. the Dalai Lama, he went on to earn an undergraduate degree in physics and the philosophy of science at Amherst College and a doctorate in religious studies at Stanford. With his unique background, Dr. Wallace brings deep experience and applied skills to the challenge of integrating traditional Indo-Tibetan Buddhism with the modern world. Dr Wallace therefore provides an unique bridge – a luminous space – for the discussion of the nature of consciousness and of reality where the ancient tradition and knowledge of Tibetan Buddhist theory and practice are brought into dialogue with the traditions and practices of contemporary science, so that each can enrich the understanding of the other. His principal Dzogchen (Great Perfection) teacher is the Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche. He has received and translated many texts, especially those of Dudjom Lingpa, along with permission to teach and give transmission and empowerment for these teachings. He has studied with many other great Yogis and Lamas.
